BSA accuses iOffer sellers for pirating software

Business Software Alliance (BSA) sued nine individuals on Monday for allegedly marketing counterfeit copies of software via the iOffer.com website.

BSA reported that they received numerous information about ioffer.com is being used by computer pirates to sell illegal copies of software. A couple of large companies have been involved in the investigation including Microsoft, Corel, Adobe, Quark and others.

BSA claims the counterfeit copies of software were sold on writable disks and included software key generators and illegal serial numbers that were used to unlock the applications once installed.

Some of the fake copies included spyware that hijacked personal information on the victim's PC and relied it to a remote party over the Internet.

During the investigation BSA managed to buy $43,000 market worth of software for less than $1,000.
