Companies not knowing their employees run VM

The Sophos company reported that the application control software produced by them called Sophos Endpoint Security and Control is now capable of detecting whether a Virtual Machine is run on a desktop computer.

The application is able to block virtualization software including products from Vmware and Microsoft.

The growing popularity of VM software is the growing concern for company owners who are worried about downloaded software that is installed in their corporate networks. Virtualization allowed employees to hide the software they downloaded from the view of their bosses and also antivirus applications.

The unsupervised desktops running virtual computers can open holes in an organization’s security.
