Symbian to become open source
Nokia has decided to set up the not-for-profit Symbian Foundation and release Symbian's code to the public.
The 10-year old operating system will be made open source from early 2009 and so far 40 companies declared they would join the project.
Symbian is one of the most widespread Operating Systems for smartphones nowadays however, it is loosing its market share that dropped to 57 percent in the second quarter, down from 66 percent in the same period a year ago according to Gartner.
